Here is the next part of the saga concerning the Emergency Rule that is being proposed by OSHA, regarding the fire service. On July 22, 2024 the written comment period ended. As part of this ordeal, OSHA did cave in and is giving everyone the opportunity to participate in an informal public hearing. This hearing will be virtual. Depending on the number of speakers, this hearing may go on for a couple of days or however long it takes to complete, It is open to everyone, but if you wish to speak at the hearing, you need to pre-register.

Recently, NYS approved a new DBA (Doing Business As) for the Association. In 1934, when the Association was incorporated, the name picked was the “Firemen’s Association”. As the years progressed, the Association recognized that the term firemen was not a encompassing name. So, in order to be a more inclusive organization to reflect the modern times, we created a DBA called the “Monroe County Volunteer Firefighters Association”. Since this is only a DBA, the original certificate of incorporation still exists where we are called the firemen’s association for legal and financial purposes. But for our members and the community, we will now be known as the Monroe County Volunteer Firefighters Association.
